Correspondence, 1818-1867.

This collection, largely correspondence addressed to Pliny Merrick, illuminates Merrick's role as an early leader of the Antimasonic movement in Massachusetts, especially in the period 1820 to 1834. Much of the material involves Merrick's role as a delegate to various Antimasonic meetings and conventions, his public speaking on behalf of Antimasonry and his role as a leader in the Antimasonic Party. Principal correspondents include Abner Phelps (1779-1873), Henry Dana Ward (1797-1884), and Benjamin Franklin Hallett (1797-1862).
